RIVA AQUARAMA

Riva Aquarama, Ferruccio Lamborghini's personal boat, was restored in the Netherlands recently.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
Ferruccio Lamborghini's Riva Aquarama was said to be the fastest 'Riva' style boat in the world when it was produced. Two huge Lamborghini V12 engines powered it.

It's the engines that make the Riva Aquarama a real Lamborghini.

The boat uses a pair of V12s from the 350 GT, the first production vehicle produced by Lamborghini. These 60 degree aluminium V12 DOHC engines were designed by Giotto Bizzarrini in 1963. In addition, Ferruccio Lamborghini was directly involved in their conversion for boat use. The bore and stroke were changed to give it more low-end torque, plus each engine rotated in different directions to offset each other. Furthermore, the engine output is over the top in true Lamborghini style. A combined total of 700 hp is generated at only 1,500 rpm.

- Riva
RIVA

Riva originally built the luxurious Aquarama wooden runabout.

According to Model Ships Online, Riva earned its praise in the boat world for speed, beauty, and craftsmanship. Most enthusiasts haven't heard of the Italian company Riva because it's not directly related to Lamborghini road cars. But, the iconic name needs no introduction in the yacht world.

RESTORATION

Since the original engines have long been separated from the boat, Riva asked Bob Wallace to rebuild two other 350 GT engines for this restoration project.

An attempt was made to purchase one of the original engines, now owned by the Lamborghini Museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese, but they told the Dutch owner that it wasn't for sale. Beyond the mechanical work, the hull needed to be fixed, sanded and clear-coated. Many don't realize how cool two Lamborghini engines can look together surrounded by exotic wood.
